As alwayd good selection of apps seafood and meat. She crab soup very good. My big issue is beer selection.. Most beers are bud lite miller lite etc. not everyone who holidays at the beach are nascar fans.. How hard is it to bring in a modest craft beer bottle selection? Ie sierra nevada, dfh, victory, jackie os etc??

Awesome service and food. Had fillet and crab cakes. Scallops wrapped in bacon as an appetizer. People with me had she crab soup and they thought it was "amazing." This is my second visit. Highly recommend.

My husband and dad were unimpressed with their meals; but my mom, sister, and I liked all of our food. The service was good and the inside had a nice atmosphere (don't let the outside scare you!). The crab cakes and flounder were wonderful, jambalaya and oysters were meh.

If they work on it, they could get their offerings up to mediocre. Are the reviews of this place some sick joke, or have these people never been to a decent seafood restaurant?! I should have realized when most of the good reviews mentioned their beef offerings. All of their seafood is brought in frozen; none of it is fresh caught locally. The frozen ingredients weren't bad, but the preparation was amateurish. Shrimp and grits were literally popcorn shrimp dropped into some watery grits with some mozzarella cheese melted over them. Fried oysters were inedible by a member of our party, who loves even mediocre oysters; in fact, he said they were the worst fried oysters he'd ever had! French fries were coated and greasy. I could go on, but I think the picture is clear. The only advantages this place had were the very good waitress and its walking distance to the hotel.

My fiance and I have made this place a must stop on our vacations to Myrtle Beach. The outside may not be the most attractive, but the food inside completely makes up for it. I got the filet mignon topped with crab meat, scallops, and bernaise sauce. This meal was nothing short of amazing! My fiance enjoyed the blackened Del Ray steak and a Long Island tea from the friendly bar tender. Every time we've come here we were seated immediately and treated extremely well by the wait staff. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the Myrtle Beach area!

Just as the rating says, "Meh. I've experienced better." You would think that any restaurant near Myrtle Beach would have spot-on seafood, even if it would be on the expensive side. But this restaurant, out of all the ones my friends I picked, was not that great. The bread, pasta, and seafood were all subpar, and not worth the extra drive for food. Note: Go to the Mexican place next door. I'm sure it's much better than this place.

Great dinner! It was a recommendation of people we jus met and they were right! We started we the she crab which is something you need to try and you will not be disappointed. I had the grouper parm! Omg. It was not what I expected. Good sized portion and oh so good. This is one of our newest places to go each time we are back in Myrtle Beach.

Food was excellent. Manhattan soup the best I have had in a long time. Don't skip dessert, amazing. The waiter was a professional with excellent service.

We started with the stuffed mushrooms. Which was excellent. Then the She crab soup. It was a thick & creamy soup with lots of taste. I had Parmesan peppercorn dressing on my salad that was very creamy. Then I had the Parmesan crusted grouper with red potatoes and fresh green beans. It was very good and unique in flavor. Everything that was ordered at our table was excellent. The Filet Mignon, seafood pasta, and sea merchant filet were also a great choice. The waiter we had was very friendly and pleasant. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We'll definitely be back!

Fantastic dinner... Busy Friday night and our server was pleasant, the food delicious! I had Veal Marsala, my family had ribs and filet mignon and seafood pasta... Absolutely wonderful!! Definitely will return next time I'm in Myrtle Beach!"

I've been to many great steakhouses across the U.S., the filet mignon here was one of the best I've ever had. Prices were excellent, no wait on a Thursday night during July. Service was great, staff was friendly and helpful at giving recommendations. Good for groups and kids too. We will be back again next time we visit myrtle.

    1. She crab soup was so good I had to order another cup for appetizer....should have just ordered a bowl. 2. My ribeye and shrimp/ scallops were perfect. 3. Wife had crab cakes and were perfect. 4. Best of all was the service!!! Edward treated my wife and children like we were family. I've been to several 5 star restaurants and the service we received was unbelievable.

We come to Sea Merchants every time we are in North Myrtle Beach! I can't give reviews on much because I always have the local fried shrimp! The soup is hit or miss. The first time we had it it was really good, the second time we sent it back. My husband and I have never been disappointed in the local fried shrimp though, and we take friends and family for it when they come.

Don't pass this one by! So I drove by the Sea Merchants hundreds of times and never gave it a second thought. Then based on a recommendation, I ended up there for dinner. I drove up to the unimpressive old school Myrtle Beach building that houses the restaurant parked I the small parking lot and headed for the door. Once inside I was greeted by a tired rough sawn wood motif. Then my waiter approached and he was an awesome professional, then I got my food and was really impressed! Now I am a Sea Merchant regular! Tonight I had the blackened tuna! It was as goodperfect as usual, the waitress was wonderful and even though a little pricy, still a bargain! Don't change a thing Sea Merchant! In today's world it is wonderful that you know how to do it right and how to repeat over and over again. You deserve everyone of those five stars!

After arriving in north myrtle beach, long drive, party of 4 girlfriends are tired and hungry. google this place and go for it. upon arrival we are skeptical. dont let the outside appearance detour you. food excellent, our server was awesome, moderate price, good portions, highly recommended if you are vacationing in area.

This place came highly recommended by a local shop owner and I was not disappointed!! The signature steak, the Sea Merchants Tenderloin, was exceptionally tender which a delicious crab topping. I will be back next time I am in North Myrtle!!

Owner Danny and David Huddle were great hosts, Danny came by and visited at our table. He recommended the Grouper Casino, which was fantastic and different from any preparation I'd had before. The French fries are also have a unique batter that makes them delicious. The prices were reasonable and the service excellent. Don't be put off by the rather downtrodden exterior. The inside is nice and the food and service are outstanding.

Steak and seafood was good. No vegetarian options..even if you ask them to put something together. I wouldn't come back.

  • Nikki B.

The service was fantastic, and the food was great. Don't judge a book by it's cover from looking at the outside. Very clean and the seafood is very good.

  • Howard C.

Don't let these reviews fool you! This is NOT a high end joint. The food is just OK, not terrible, not great either... Not a tourist trap and not a big crowd. The atmosphere is old school and kinda neat, service was good, but won't be going back with many other options.

  • Kimberly D.

Delicious! Hole in the wall kind of place, but food was delicious and prices were good. Definitely will go back! Grouper Parmesan was tasty for my entree and the Scallops Pauline was a tasty appetizer!

  • David G.

Meh. The food wasn't terrible, like the decor. One of my big pet peeves is burnt out light bulbs. This place had several out in the main dining room. That just lends an "unkempt" air to the place. The food itself was pretty good; better than average, but you've already set me up for an unpleasant experience.

Well 4.5 actually. Absolutely great dinner. My wife and I would rate it at a 4.5 because both of our green bean sides were a bit undercooked and rubbery. Other than that it was one of the best meals we have had in quite a while, portions were certainly hearty. Service while it appears they were down a man or two, we were never left wanting for drinks when we needed refills. Would definitely go back again when we are next in the area.

Get a reservation. We didn't, and our family of 6 were put in the dark 'overflow' room by ourselves. Apparently, we couldn't sit with the adults. Other than that, the food was good. The service was fantastic. We felt it was a little pricey. Also, someone said that the green beens were undercooked, and we agree. We would go back again on a future trip to North Myrtle Beach.

A Five Star performance! The food was awesome from the appetizer to the main course with more than enough to fill the heartiest appetite. Service was great and prices reasonable. This is a must stop anytime you are in North Myrtle Beach.

I made reservations for a party of 11 based on the reviews from Trip Advisor and other sites. I felt we would have at least a 3.5 - 4 dining experience. I was wrong. I understood we may have been placed in the front "dark" dining room based on our party size. The room had the ambiance of a dungeon foyer with sparse décor. Overhead lighting had several burnt out bulbs. We had to light our own table oil candles and open the blinds for adequate lighting. This would have been ok if the food was respect worthy but it was not. The good: Server worked hard and took drink and appetizer orders quickly. One of our children spilt a drink and the server was extremely helpful...EXTREMELY HELPFUL. Salad was pretty good--home made croutons were fabulous. Salad dressings were good. Surf and turf had a tasty piece of beef. My wife made the right choice for this restaurant and ordered the fried dinner platter......it was good. Wine prices were very reasonable. Fried shrimp dinner was ok. Not so Good: Four people ordered the Seafood Pasta. It came with crab, scallops, and shrimp; however, I saw very few seafood "pieces" when plates were served. Not one person liked the meal. Surf and turf seafood (shrimp and scallops) was very bland, rubbery, and unmemorable for quality dining. Then my friend commented that our "condo cooked" shrimp and scallops blew these away. I had the Tuna with wasabi. Wasabi sauce was very good but the tuna was dry, over cooked, and very disappointing. We spent $350 with only 2 bottles of reasonably priced wine. I will not dine there again.

Service was prompt, food was perfectly prepared, atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. My wife had the blackened tuna special.....outstanding! I had the grouper parm which was everything I expected it to be......will be going back again soon.

Sea merchant is a great little place! Stopped by on a recommendation, no wait for a table. Edward was an attentive and helpful waiter. The tuna was excellent and fried shrimp was lightly breaded and just right. Definitely coming back.

Great food, great service, great people. A local favorite. It makes our list when we make it to town! Tonight did not disappoint. Yummy Oysters Rockefeller to start is off. Scampi and seafood pasta were hits, as was the fish special and veal. Ended the evening with the infamous Turtle Pie!

Always have very delicious, fresh food here. The prime rib is marinated and cuts as soft as butter. All of their sauces and salad dressings are homemade. Joey is a great waiter and extremely helpful waiter! Ask for him, you won't be sorry. The homemade pecan pie is a real treat! Nice, homey ambiance. Not loud- you can actually carry on a conversation! Try this nice place!

We found this place last year and it continues to be one of our favorites. The steak is very good and seafood excellent. The bread is lacking. Service is wonderful. Rarely is there a line for this place. It's where we go when it's 7 pm and everywhere else is packed. A local favorite, you will leave satisfied.

Although we've been coming to this area for many years, this was our first visit to Sea Merchants. As previous reviewers stated, the parking lot is a bumpy mess, but so what? The restaurant interior is warm and inviting with dark wood paneling and a brick fireplace. Booths are comfortable and the menu and specials offered all looked delicious. Our waiter, Joe, was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He helped make recommendations and readily accommodated some special dietary needs by making the appropriate substitution. Stuffed mushrooms were notably good, steaks were very tender and cooked to perfection. All in all, we were pleased to discover this restaurant and plan to come back.

One of the better meals I have eaten on vacation...anywhere. Both my girlfriend and I got the Sea Merchants Tenderloin (see photo-lighting was low in restaurant - a good thing), and we both loved it. The appetizers and desserts were spot on. Reasonably priced as well...would certainly go back, given the chance.

First off, I'm from Jersey and was in the area for vacation last week. I've only been to Sea Merchants once, so take those things into account when reading this. Sea Merchants was a fantastic experience for me and my family. The building has a old homely feeling. Some of the decorations were a bit odd, but didn't make me feel uncomfortable. The service from my eyes was absolutely fantastic. Our waiter was helpful, welcoming, funny and later brought us a dessert on him. Everything about the experience thus far was solid. As for food, I had the jambalaya special which I thought was amazing. I also tried my sister's steak which was definitely one of the best restaurant steaks I've ever had. The portions are also pretty large too, but again, I'm from Jersey so my scale might be a little skewed compared to local opinions. The parking lot is kind of free-for-all, which someone said already. Also the place in general seemed a little dark although our table was in a railed section with seeming more adequate lighting. Those were just a few of my perception though, but none of which were deal breakers. It's rare for me to go into restaurant and rave about the meal days afterwards, but Sea Merchants was one of the few. Overall, pretty much everything about my experience here was fantastic and I came out well satisfied. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone living or visiting Myrtle Beach, SC.

Food was very good including salads and appetizer. Bread had no flavor and wine list by glass was cheap and quality reflected that. Definitely worth going though!

I was a bit disappointed when several of the reviews said that this was a hidden gem. We tried the jumbalaya special as an appetizer. The sauce was really good but the scallops were very rubbery and fishy. The service was good, but food was really so-so. I had the Grouper Parm that everyone raved about. It was a 3/5 but the fish was kind of weird and soggy. My mom had the shrimp and scallop scampi. Again the scallops were fishy and ruined the dish. I would recommend checking out somewhere else.

Went here with a party of 9 and were seated promptly. One of our party is allergic to wheat, and asked our waitress specifically if there was any breading/bread crumb on the Parmesan grouper, stating her allergy. The waitress said there absolutely was not, and it was ordered. When our meals came, my veal marsala was not marsala at all, but covered in a cream sauce with scallops and crab---not a bad problem to have, except I am allergic to shellfish. I sent it back without issue. My dining companion got her grouper and started to eat it when I noticed what appeared to be breadcrumbs under the cheese crust. I went to the kitchen to ask if there was indeed breadcrumbs on the fish, and was told there were. The manager(?) went to the table and took another order from her--I wasn't there to hear if he offered any apology, but said that the waitress surely should have known that as she has worked there for 6 years. At no time did our waitress come back and offer an apology or make sure that everything was OK.....the only other time we saw her was when she went to the other end of our table to present the check and then take it back with the cash. My friend ended up having her second meal boxed to go since it came after everyone else in the party was finished eating, and plates were already being cleared. Aside from that debacle, the food was acceptable, but literally drowning in butter/oil. I believe I also witnessed my mother picking bones from her fish, and the prime rib, while ordered "medium" was seriously "well done". When it was time to leave, I stood at the hostess stand hoping to speak to the manager, but no one came for me to even ask. It was not a busy night, nor were they woefully understaffed. I believe they could just really care less, which is truly disheartening.

The first reviewer must own the place... Took a party of 6 there last weekend on Sat night. At 6pm, they were less than half full. Aside from the parking lot being without lines (sort of a free-for-all), it smelled like hot garbage. There was a half full garbage bag laying on the ground near the back; not sure if this was the problem, but something that would have been addressed by an owner/manager that had his/her stuff together. The server was 'OK', but seemed a bit frantic, despite a half full house. Nearly ordered a shrimp cocktail, until he told me it was a pile of popcorn shrimp. Probably would have remembered more about the experience if I wasn't trying to keep my 2.5 year old busy while we waited for our meals. We nearly finished 'The Incredibles' on her DVD player before we got out of there. Don't want to sound like we dine-n-dash, but with small children, it's nice to have that option. Food was edible, but nowhere near the level of quality that I would give repeat business for. You'd find better in a chain restaurant.

This restaurant was even better than the reviews. Parmesan grouper was wonderful and my husband had the ribeye that was so tender. Yumy. All of their food was homemade and fresh. Everything was very tasty and the waitress was most friendly and helpful. We will be back again before this week is over. Best place that I have found in MB.

While on vacation in North Myrtle Beach for a mini-family reunion, our party of thirteen wanted to go out for seafood. We called the office of the condo rental place we're at and asked for a recommendation. Sea Merchants was one of their recommendations. We read some online reviews and they seemed mixed. We decided to try it and were very pleased with our experience. They had a tuna special that was ordered by a couple people and they said was very good. I had the Grouper Parm that was really good - though I've never had Grouper so I have nothing to compare with it. My wife had the crab cakes, and she said they were delicious. The She-Crab Soup was good, though I will agree with another reviewer that the consistency was more like clam chowder and less like bisque. But the flavor was very good nonetheless. I also tried the Seafood Stew that was very good. If I went again I would definitely get that. Our server (I didn't get his name) was excellent. He was very attentive to the needs of everyone in our party. A couple people wanted to split an entrée and he was very accommodating. And our glasses never lacked for drink. We had five kids in our group and at the end of our meal he gave them a big dessert to share for being so good. Some of the reviews we read knock Sea Merchants for the décor. Ridiculous! It's an older restaurant with a dark wood and sea cove theme. Nothing offensive or weird about it. Maybe a little dated, but that just added to the charm. I would definitely go back.
